D'ANGELO ALMOST DONE WITH LP SAYS QUESTLOVE

Fans have been waiting on D’Angelo’s follow-up to 2000’s Voodoo for quite some time and according to The Roots drummer Questlove, their wait may soon be over. Describing the project as being “in the home stretch” while talking to Billboard.com’s The Juice, the musician even revealed a few collaborations that may make the final cut. “I’m on his record as well. He’s in the home-stretch right now. I know that Fred Wesley and the JB Horns just did a cut that Q-Tip did; I know he’s doing his vocals right now,” said Quest to Billboard. Talking with Pitchfork back in December, Quest called the album “pretty much 97% done” and said that the singer may just need someone to take the project away from him. “He’s just finishing lyrics now. He needs somebody to smack him and take the record away from because it’s pretty much finished,” he said. As for the sound of the LP, Quest added, “For all intents and purposes, this album is the black version of [The Beach Boys’] Smile -- at best it will go down in the Smile/There’s A Riot Goin’ On/Miles Davis’ On The Corner category. That’s what I’m hoping for. There’s stuff on there I was amazed at, like new music patches [keyboard sounds] I’ve never heard before.” D’Angelo is slated to embark on a trek later this month in Europe in support of the project.
